Interview: Nathan McCoy
Dec 2007 20

How old are you and why?
How old: 43 Why: born on September 20 – you do the math.

What got you started in film work?
My brother Phil, who inspired me with his vision. Plus, after I met Ian I was certain this would be an epic adventure.

What are you working on in the movie?
Producer. Plus I’m always looking to gain a little weight if possible, ya know? With Craft Services on the film, I tried, I really did.

What are your favorite movies?
Miller’s Crossing, Spirited Away, Raizing Arizona, The Usual Suspects, Brazil, Blade Runner, Three O’Clock High, MPatHG, Memento, Fight Club, Matrix 1, 2001: A Space Odyssey (mostly this one is a longevity thing – 2001 completely ruled for years and years, at least until Star Wars came along and even then I still thought it was cool. Sort of dated now.), Star Wars, Akira – because of it’s audacity, Fargo, Children of Men (recent fave) and you know, I don’t care what you say, I loved Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. I cried at the end. Did you? I used to really dig The Thing with Kurt Russell. Years of that. Also I loved Altered States, also a bit dated. Twelve Monkeys was groovy – Brad Pitt killed me in that movie. Hot Fuzz had me belly laughing. Mystic River.

What would your mom say about Project London, the movie?Well – I think there’s 100% chance she’ll love it. A lot. Even if she doesn’t like it she’ll love it, ya know? She’s my mom. Although if so much of her family wasn’t involved I’m not sure if this movie would really fit her profile…

What super power would you choose and why?Just like Wonderboy, I would like the power…to move you.

What super power do you actually have?
I have the super power of droning, monotone voice. I can also type like the wind – and at high decibels. Also, there’s a movement I can make with the fingers of both hands that I have never seen anyone repeat – close, but not exactly. I will happily show you.

What are your favorite bands and/or albums?
White Stripes, Nine Inch Nails, SoundGarden, Beck, Artur Rubinstein, Audioslave, Beatles, Chopin, Mozart, Brahms, Beethoven, Bach, Debussy, The Cure, Evgeny Kissin, Glenn Gould, Jane’s Addiction, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Loreena McKennitt, Neko Case, Radiohead, System of a Down, Tenacious D, Sigur Ros, Bjork. Drama and/or Humor in Music is Key.

If there were tigers roaming the streets and you had to defend yourself, what weapon would you choose?
First off, let’s assume that if they’re roamin’, they’re not endangered. Heck, I guess it means that I’m endangered. For sure, RPG (Rocket Propelled Grenade). No messin’ around.

What would you like to tell us about yourself that we didn’t ask?
I have a lovely wife and 3 fantastic daughters. I have a great family, nuclear and extended.

What question are you glad we didn’t ask?
How is your remodel going?
