The Producer’s Report #83 – Epic Progress!
Sep 2009 03

Oh wow. Breath. In. Out. I saw some amazing stuff tonight. For those of you who remember Jerry on the roof throwing a wrench… Ian finished the shot where the wrench goes into the engine intake of a Joint Command Police Lifter. It’s epic. And that was only one of a slug of shots that Ian and team completed. The shot of the beam satellite destroying the mesospheric barrier shield is among those finished shots… so very hardcore cool. Bottom line, so much progress has been made that reels 4 and 5 are ready for final review before they are turned over to sound design. Reel 2 only has one more shot to complete it! This is a good week my friends.

By the way, it’s important to note that the number of finished shots below is really not accurate. We don’t actually know how many visual effects shots there are, except that there are a lot. We started tracking and measuring our progress sometime after a number of shots were completed. Ian thinks that we are at 90% completion of VFX if you add in what was done before we started tracking it all. Very cool!

Here are the stats.

Status of Visual Effects (VFX) Shots:
Number remaining: 114
Number in progress: 8
Number completed: 498
Percentage remaining: 19.7%

Doom: “Apathy” (calculated by Ian)

Projected date for completion of all VFX:
3 December 2009 (based on projected time estimates of all tasks)
26 November 2009 (based on spreadsheet items completed per week)

This week’s recommendations:
Ian: “Do your best.”
Nathan: “Fred Jones Pt. 2″ by Ben Folds. Poignant & Beautiful. On my “best ever” playlist.
Phil: “Gabriel’s Oboe” by Ennio Morricone from The Mission soundtrack. There are only a few pieces this beautiful.

Cheers,

Phil McCoy, Executive Producer
